The 2009/10 Miami Dolphins will begin the season with a new ownership group consisting of new minority owners, Cuban Natives Emilio and Gloria Estefan. Majority owner Stephen M. Ross and the Estefan’s held a press conference on June 25th to announce the partnership. Whether this will help the team that fields Landshark Stadium remains to be seen.
Top 2009 Miami Dolphins draft pick Brian Harline has been fitting in well with the other receivers and more importantly with QB Chad Pennington. 2nd year Head Coach Tony Sparano couldn’t be more pleased. “I like the way it’s shaping up (the receiving corps) I really do. I think we added a little more speed to our group right now,” Sparano states on the Dolphin web site.
The 2008/09 season saw the Miami Dolphins capture the AFC East but was cut short in the first round of the playoffs with a loss to the Baltimore Ravens, 27-9. The Miami Dolphins completed one of the biggest turnarounds in NFL History as the team finished with a 1-15 record in the 2007/08 season. They did manage to pick up a huge OT, Jake Long out of Michigan and he paid immediate dividends as he became the one of two starting rookies on the line.
Enter rookie Head Coach Tony Sparano and the team flourished under his leadership. Not only did they complete the biggest turnaround in NFL History, Sparano was just one vote shy of receiving the Coach of the Year Award (it went to Atlanta Coach Mike Smith)
