Matchup to Watch: Jets vs. the Percentages
For the Jets to secure a playoff berth, they must defeat Miami and hope for these results: Tennessee loses to Houston, Cincinnati loses to Baltimore, and either Denver loses to Kansas City or Oakland loses to San Diego. If each of these games turns in their favor, the Jets will have overcome serious odds. FootballOutsiders.com puts their chances at 10.4 percent.
Number to watch: 22
The number of times the Jets’ Wayne Hunter has allowed his quarterback to hit the ground this season (11 sacks and 11 hits), according to ProFootballFocus.com, more than any other offensive tackle in the N.F.L. Hunter figures to line up opposite Cameron Wake, who has the most quarterback pressures (46) among outside linebackers in a 3-4 defense. On paper, it seems a poor matchup for Hunter. But he neutralized Wake in the Jets’ 24-6 victory over Miami on Oct. 17 and earned a game ball.
