Dolphins leave Canton with first loss of the Preseason

The Miami Dolphins were hoping for a better outcome against the NFC Dallas Cowboys.  Instead, they left peppered with pluses and minuses against a much improved Dallas squad.

Miami put their starters on the field against Cowboy backups and nearly came away with a victory and could have if it were not for a Matt Moore pass that bounced off rookie receiver Chad Bumphis and  landed in the hands of Cowboys rookie DeVonte Holloman.  Holloman returned the pick 75-yards for a touchdown.

Head Coach Joe Philbin tried to downplay the loss explaining that he wasn’t necessarily looking for a victory.

“Play speed is really the thing that we’ve been talking to our guys about,” Philbin said. “This game is not really going to be about X’s and O’s, although we have a good sound plan in, I’m sure our opponent has a good sound plan as well, but it’s more going to be about our guys playing football the right way.”

Receiver Michael Egnew had four receptions in this game for 52 yards which was as many receptions and four more yards than he had all of last season.

By halftime the score was 17-0 but the Fins stepped it up in the second half closing to within 17-13 with 4:50 left in the game.  Matt Moore then fumbled on a third down play forcing a punt.  The Cowboys took the ensuing possession and marched 42-yards in four plays for a TD while taking only 23 seconds off the clock.

The final score ended up being 24-20 Cowboys.

The next preseason game for the Dolphins will be Friday August 9th on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Tickets are still available!
